Ann Hagan Webb

Artist Biography:

Ann began painting watercolors in 1996, an interest she shared with her mother. With a Psychology private practice and 3 young children at home the quick clean up of watercolors overrode the difficulty of the medium. She studied art at the Danforth Museum School, primarily under the instruction of Rosetta Narcissi until 2002, when advocacy work against clergy abuse of children took over. There was no time left to paint. Ann rediscovered painting, this time in oil, in 2014, studying with Lorena Pugh and her Monday Night Masters studio group. Oil painting quickly became her passion. She has been exhibiting in juried shows at Wickford Art Association, South County Art, Pawtucket Art Collaborative, and Spring Bull Gallery. Today, still a practicing psychologist and advocate, painting has consumed more and more of her time and interest. Various plein air, still life and figure drawing classes have rounded out her continuing study with Lorena. She sees her art as a work in progress, eager to experiment and push past her comfort zone artistically.

Artist Statement:

“There are so many ways I’d like to grow as an artist. Right now I’m trying to master painting with palette knives. I love the texture and unpredictable colors that I get from them. It helps me loosen up while staying representational. Painting en plein air is another challenge I’m beginning to love, and have been enjoying the unpredictable weather, sea, and sky at Beavertail. Painting is my passion, and it’s what centers me. I get lost in it.”
