Diane Gay

Diane Gay has been acclaimed for her elegant party and theatre scenes, reminiscent of the entertaining legacy of Newport. She is also known for her powerful yet delicate images of women represented in oil and acrylics.  She has two ongoing series of women: Feminine Lines-a series devoted to simple alive strokes that capture a movement or moment.  The second is called Elegant Women-women who are engaging in and enjoying the various activities of their lives, whether it is in a ball gown at a formal function or simply sitting quietly in serenity.

Originally trained as an Industrial Psychologist, Ms. Gay received a B.S. in Sociology and an M.S. in Industrial Psychology.  She worked for General Electric, NASA and private consulting firms in Florida and New York before being inspired to venture into a different world of creativity through art.

Although not formally trained in art, she has been greatly influenced by her friend, sculptor Fred Strugatz of Manhattan, NY and especially by her husband, artist/illustrator Ray Caram.  She is a member of the Copley Art Society of Boston, attaining Copley Artist status.  Her work can be seen in many galleries throughout New England, including the Spring Bull Gallery of Newport, RI, Five Main Gallery of Wickford, RI, and the Copley Gallery of Boston.  She has many paintings hanging in private and corporate collections in the USA, France, England, and Holland.  The Persian poet Rumi, expresses her feelings about her art:

In your light I learn how to love,
In your beauty, how to make poems.
You dance inside my chest,
Where no one sees you,

But sometimes I do, and that
Sight becomes this art.
